Hot water system electrical — Canning Vale and SE Perth
Electrical connections for new hot water systems, heat pump wiring, and dedicated circuits. I handle the electrical side — you'll need a plumber for the water connections.
What I do (and don't do)
I handle the electrical side of hot water systems — the circuit from your switchboard, the wiring to the unit, and the connections. Plumbing is a separate trade and needs a licensed plumber.
If you're getting a new hot water system installed, you'll typically need both trades. I can coordinate timing with your plumber, or I can recommend one if you need.
Common hot water electrical work
About off-peak hot water
Most electric storage hot water systems run on off-peak power — they only heat water during off-peak hours (usually overnight) when electricity is cheaper. This requires specific metering and wiring setup.
If you're switching from gas to electric, or installing a new unit, the off-peak circuit needs to be set up properly. I can advise on what's involved for your situation.
About heat pump hot water
Heat pump hot water systems use about a third of the electricity of traditional electric storage systems. They work like an air conditioner in reverse — pulling heat from the air to heat the water.
The electrical requirements are different from old electric systems, so if you're upgrading from electric storage to heat pump, there's usually some rewiring involved.
